Devastating News on UPS Incident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The number of victims due to the freight aircraft that ignited and went down has now risen to 13, as confirmed by official reports.

Mayor's Announcement

“On my way to the Workers’ candlelight gathering, I was informed of a 13th person that passed away as a consequence of the plane accident,” wrote the city mayor in a public communication. “My heart are with the relatives, associates and colleagues of all who were taken in this recently occurred calamity. We will overcome this together.”

Deceased Identified

A statement from the carrier identified the flight crew aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts are extended to all UPSer who has been impacted and all in our community region – supporting you and guaranteeing you get the attention and assistance you need is our focus,” the organization’s message expressed.

Probe Details

Federal investigators announced that the freight aircraft’s left wing burst into flames and an engine fell off just after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the aircraft to crash and erupt into a inferno.

The safety agency has said it is investigating the jet’s maintenance history, which was in the state for maintenance weeks ahead of the crash.

Aviation data revealed the aircraft was on the runway in that location from 3 September to last week.

“We are knowledgeable that this aircraft was present in the facility,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, not giving a precise date range. “We will look at all elements of repairs that was completed, from the San Antonio period, straight to the time of the trip.”

Retrieval of Vital Items

The pilot’s recorder and information unit were retrieved, and the motor was located on the runway.

The devices – referred to as data containers – were constructed to withstand crash impacts and intense heat from infernos, and they seemed to be undamaged when found among the remains. Officials plan on examining data from the recorders.

Jet’s final recorded information indicated an altitude of 475 feet and a velocity of 210 miles per hour before the crash.

Maintenance History

Per aviation authority documents from that date, a crack on a structural piece within the center wing fuel tank required repairs.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it provides airframe maintenance for the company’s aircraft and manages a maintenance center in San Antonio, chose not to provide remarks, but stated it would cooperate fully when officials contacted it.

Services Restart

In the meantime, UPS Worldport operations continued last night with its Next Day Air or night sort procedure, representative the company official confirmed. Each of the three tarmacs at the aviation hub were also back in operation.

The distribution hub in Louisville is the organization’s most significant. The facility hires in excess of twenty thousand individuals in the region, manages three hundred trips each day and sorts over a huge volume of packages an hour.

Public Reaction

A candlelight vigil was organized on the late afternoon of that date by the area worker’s group, which supports staff at the airfield, the organization’s largest air cargo hub.

Worker representatives, which stands for employees, started the vigil with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the approximate hour of the accident before.

“This event was so abrupt, so unexpected,” the leader addressed the assembly of 200. “No one had a chance to bid farewell to any one of those who we have said farewell to.”
